Click Translate privacy policy

Effective date: September 10, 2026

Click Translate processes screenshots, camera images, selected photos, recognized text, and translations on the user's device by default. Click Translate does not send that content to our servers, and the app does not require an account.

Data the app accesses

On iPhone and iPad, the user can grant camera access or select a photo. A user-created Shortcut can pass a screenshot to Click Translate. Apple's Vision and Translation frameworks process the content on-device.

On Android, the user can approve screen capture through the system MediaProjection prompt. Android keeps that screen-capture session open while the foreground overlay and its persistent notification are visible. Click Translate acquires and processes one frame when the translation button is tapped; it doesn't translate or retain frames between taps. The notification's Stop action ends the session. Google ML Kit downloads language model files, then performs text recognition and translation on-device. ML Kit does not send input images, recognized text, or translation output to Google.

On Mac, the user grants Screen Recording permission and selects a region. Live Area processes changing frames locally until paused or stopped. Screenshots and translations remain in memory unless the user chooses Save or Copy. Mac stores daily screenshot counts and active Live Area seconds locally and includes no advertising SDK.

Offline conversation uses the microphone only after the user chooses Start and grants permission. Supported iPhones and iPads use Apple's on-device speech and translation frameworks. Android uses the on-device speech recognizer and ML Kit translation. This mode does not upload microphone audio or captions to a Click Translate server. It keeps audio buffers and up to 100 conversation rows in memory, without saving a recording or transcript file. Stop or leaving the foreground ends capture; closing the conversation discards its rows. Language downloads require an internet connection and a separate download action. The operating system may continue a download after the app stops waiting for it.

On iPhone, iPad, and Android, Click Translate offers optional rewarded advertisements through Google AdMob when ads are available. Ads open only when you choose to watch one for extra translations. We do not send screenshots, recognized text, translation output, contacts, or translation history to the advertising SDK. We don't operate a separate analytics service.

The advertising SDK and consent service can process IP addresses (which can indicate approximate location), device or app identifiers, ad interactions, and diagnostic or performance information for advertising, measurement, and fraud prevention. We request non-personalized ads; this does not mean the advertising SDK collects no data. Google and its advertising partners process advertising data under their own policies. Where required, a consent form appears before requesting an ad. You can reopen available consent controls through “Ad privacy choices” in the app. Watching an ad does not require granting tracking permission. Declining or closing an ad does not remove your existing translations. Watching requires an internet connection; earned translations can be used offline after language models are downloaded.

The app stores the local quota date, successful translation count, saved bonus balance, and reward accounting on the device. It does not maintain a server-side rewards account. Saved extras are not transferable, do not expire, and are not cash or purchased currency.

The Android ML Kit SDK sends Google diagnostic and usage data. Google documents this as device and application information, device or per-installation identifiers, performance metrics, API configuration, input and output sizes, feature versions, event types, error codes, and configured source and destination languages. Google says this data is encrypted in transit and isn't transferred to third parties. Google processes it under its privacy policy for diagnostics, usage analytics, maintenance, and misuse prevention.

Apple and Google process subscription purchases, restores, download status, and payment information under their own privacy policies. Click Translate reads the store's signed purchase state to decide whether the daily cap applies; it does not receive card details.

Service availability settings

The app requests feature availability settings from our Cloudflare-hosted service on launch and periodically while active. These requests include the app platform, app version, and a random installation identifier used to apply device-specific feature rules and gradual rollouts. You can view this Feature access ID in Settings. It is not an account, advertising identifier, or proof of a subscription. It is stored locally and is not shared across devices by an app account.

Requests do not include screenshots, recognized text, translations, microphone audio, language choices, subscription state, or provider credentials. Cloudflare processes the identifier and ordinary connection metadata, including the IP address and user agent, to evaluate rules and operate the endpoint. Request metadata may appear in service diagnostics. We do not collect translation counts or translation performance analytics through this service.

The app caches the last valid settings locally. A remote disable takes effect only after the app successfully fetches it; a disconnected device keeps its cached settings. Older app versions may fetch only platform/version DeepL disable rules without an installation identifier. Builds explicitly configured without a service endpoint do not make these requests.

Optional DeepL connection

You may save your own DeepL API key and explicitly request a text translation on a completed image result. Before each request, the app asks permission to send recognized text, source and target language choices, and the saved API key directly to DeepL over HTTPS. DeepL also receives network information such as your IP address. Images and microphone audio are not uploaded. This option is separate from offline translation, instant Shortcut previews, Live Area, and conversation modes. We do not receive your API key or translation content.

Test connection separately asks permission to send the saved credential to DeepL's usage endpoint. It sends no image, recognized text, or audio and does not request a translation. Saving a credential alone makes no network request. DeepL handles the request under its privacy policy and the terms of your API account. Provider retention depends on those terms; local deletion does not delete records already held by DeepL.

API keys use nonsynchronizing, device-only Keychain storage on Apple platforms and Android Keystore encryption in app storage excluded from backups. Keys and translation content are excluded from app logs and are not sent to ads. Delete API key in Settings removes the local saved credential. Apple Keychain items may survive app removal, so delete the key before uninstalling or revoke it through DeepL. Translation responses remain in memory until the result closes or is replaced. Requests are not automatically retried or routed to another provider. Cancellation cannot undo processing or charges already incurred at DeepL.

Retention and deletion

Click Translate does not maintain a server-side user record. Temporary local inputs are discarded after processing or when the user closes the translation. Translation settings, quota counters, and saved extras remain on the device until the user clears app data or deletes the app. They are not synced between devices or restored through store subscription restores. Consent choices may also be stored on the device by Google's consent SDK. Apple or Google language-model files may be managed separately by the operating system. Google controls retention of ML Kit diagnostic data under its own policies.

Children

Click Translate is a general utility and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

This website and support email

Cloudflare Pages hosts this website. Cloudflare processes ordinary connection information, including IP addresses and request headers, to deliver and protect the site. The website has no advertising, analytics scripts, account system, contact form, or cookies set by our site code.

If you email support, we receive the email address, message, and any attachments you choose to send. We use them to respond to your request. Don't send API keys, payment details, or private screenshots. You can request deletion of your support correspondence by emailing the same address.
